Soul's Remnant Ironman Guide: Solo vs Group Ironman
Quick answer
Ironman is a self-sufficient challenge mode chosen in the first tutorial. Solo blocks normal trading, parties and guilds; Group Ironman allows those interactions only within a fixed group of 2–5 players.
Quick Answer: What Is Ironman?
Ironman is an optional self-sufficient challenge mode that must be chosen during the first tutorial. It is intended for experienced players and is not recommended for a first character.
Solo Ironman characters cannot trade with other players or join ordinary parties and guilds. Group Ironman keeps similar restrictions but allows interaction within a fixed group of two to five members.
Solo vs Group Ironman
| Rule | Solo Ironman | Group Ironman |
|---|---|---|
| Group size | One player | 2–5 members |
| Trading | No normal player trading | Only with original group members |
| Parties | Cannot join normal parties | Party with group members |
| Guild | Cannot join normal guilds | Group forms its own guild |
| Hardcore failure | First death removes Hardcore status | Shared lives equal the original group size |
| After Hardcore loss | Remains Ironman | Remains Group Ironman |
| Leaving mode | Can become a normal character | Leaving the group makes that character Solo Ironman |
Normal characters cannot later become Ironmen, so decide before leaving the relevant tutorial stage.
How to Start Ironman
- Stay in the first tutorial map.
- Complete the platforming route to reach the floating Deferri Crystal.
- Ask the crystal about Solo or Group Ironman.
- Confirm the mode only after reading its restrictions.
For Group Ironman, form the complete party before the final setup. The party leader should have all two to five intended members present on the first tutorial map. The group is finalized when a member proceeds into the second tutorial map.
Hardcore Lives and Death
A Solo Ironman begins with Hardcore status. Dying removes the Hardcore badge but does not remove the Ironman restrictions.
A Hardcore Group Ironman receives a shared pool containing one life per member. A five-player starting group therefore has five shared lives. Any member's death consumes a life; after the pool reaches zero, the group remains Group Ironman but loses Hardcore status.
The remaining group lives are shown in the Misc tab of the Guild Window, opened with N by default.
Combat, Loot and EXP Restrictions
Solo Ironman prevents outside assistance from bypassing self-sufficient progression. The official rules state that you do not receive normal monster EXP or loot when outside players contributed to the kill. Group Ironman members may assist one another within their group.
Plan around this before choosing the mode:
- You must gather or earn your own equipment and materials.
- Ordinary player trading cannot repair a missing resource.
- Solo characters cannot rely on regular party grinding.
- Group composition and life skills matter more because the group is closed.
Ironman Guild Rules
Group Ironman automatically creates a guild without the normal 1,000 Soul Crystal creation cost. Ironman guilds can level without the usual member-count requirement.
Leaving the Group Ironman guild turns that character into a Solo Ironman, and the character cannot rejoin the original group. Treat leaving as a permanent progression decision.
Can You Remove Ironman Status?
Yes. After the tutorial, the Deferri Crystal can be found below the bridge in Spawn. It explains the process for becoming a standard character. Removing Ironman status restores access to normal social systems, but a standard character cannot become Ironman again.
The official reference states that stored items are mailed to the character when Ironman status is removed.
Beginner Recommendations
Use a normal character first if you have not learned the world, life-skill unlocks and first dungeon route. If you still choose Ironman:
- Select one dependable combat path before experimenting with hybrids.
- Unlock Mining, Fishing or other life skills according to actual material needs.
- Keep quest items and unfamiliar resources until their use is confirmed.
- Use World Map search to replace information normally supplied by trading partners.
- For Group Ironman, agree on gathering and crafting roles before leaving the tutorial.
FAQ
Can a normal character become Ironman later?
No. Ironman is selected during the first tutorial; the conversion works only from Ironman back to normal.
Can Group Ironman members trade?
Only with members of their fixed Ironman group.
Does death delete the character?
No. Death removes Hardcore status when the relevant life condition is met, but the character remains Ironman.
Is Ironman good for a first playthrough?
The game explicitly recommends learning Soul's Remnant on a normal character first.
